LEVEL 2 – INTERMEDIATE

Practical Protection Relay Configuration & Testing (2 Weeks)

Program Structure

  • Relay parameter configuration
  • Basic relay testing using test kit

Week 1 – Protection Fundamentals

  • Protection philosophy using GE F650 and SEL 451 relays.
  • Overcurrent and earth fault protection with SEL 451 and MICOM P142.
  • CT/PT concepts for relay applications using relay test racks.
  • Protection coordination using relay setting software.
  • Introduction to numerical relay hardware across all OEM relay racks.

Week 2 – Configuration & Basic Testing

  • Power system overview Training panels & diagrams
  • Substation types & layouts Control racks (visual exposure)
  • Single Line Diagram (SLD) reading Real relay & control panel SLDs
  • Primary equipment (CB, CT, PT, LA) Practical component demonstration
  • Introduction to protection & relays Demo on GE / SEL / Siemens relays

Outcome of Level 2

  • Configure basic relay settings
  • Perform OC/EF testing
  • Use Megger SMRT46 for injection testing
  • Understand transformer protection basics
